My Kitchen Rules is a weekly cooking programme in which youth pair up and cook a wholesome meal for the wider group. Each group is provided with a budget of $40, and they have to purchase, cook and serve their meals. After each meal the wider group of youth provide ratings and constructive feedback for cooks to consider in the future.
The competition provides a great environment for young people to learn about keeping to a food budget. Often youth plan to make their favourite meals only to find the true cost of food ingredients. All these experiences provide great discussions at the completion of their meals.
Below is a video of our youth cooking a butter chicken dish.
